The Scary Correlation Between Sugar and Yeast Infections

According to the American Heart Association, the daily intake of sugar limits for women should be no more than 6 teaspoons, and men should be no more than 9 teaspoons.

Eating a lot of sugary foods can create yeast infections. This is not an issue related to fruit and other natural sugars, but rather processed sugar products. Symptoms of a yeast infection are:

  • Itchiness

  • Burning while urinating and during intercourse

  • Redness and swelling of the vulva

  • Pain and soreness

  • Discharge that often comes with cottage cheese-like appearance.

The overconsumption of these types of products makes it hard for the body to keep free from having a normal PH balance. PH measures acidity and alkalinity. Unbalanced PH levels aside from causing yeast overgrowth can also contribute to infertility.

The bad news for a woman with a frequent history of yeast infections is that baked goods, candies, and even alcohol are the type of sugar that yeast infections thrive on.

On the other hand, fruit is a great source of energy, vitamins, minerals, and nutrients that are essential for proper body functioning. Instead of getting rid of fruit, get rid of processed foods, also fizzy drinks, and don't forget cake and cookies.

It's important to know, there is higher sugar content in fruit juice than in the fruit whole. Fiber also dissolves during the blending process. Fiber is in its pure form when the fruit is consumed whole. Should you prefer to lower sugar content while still having sweetness I would suggest you have fruit whether it's a fruit salad or as a quick snack. When it comes to diabetes, processed sugars should be eliminated but fruit should be kept for nutritional reasons.

Alcohol contains sugar and its abuse promotes yeast overgrowth. This is the equivalent of being on a high-processed sugar diet. Too much alcohol creates an acidic environment, which is perfect for thriving infections.

Another way for lowering your blood sugar levels is through exercise. Whether it’s running, walking, dancing, or doing yoga, the key is to get your heart pumping. During this process, your muscles will utilize more glucose which is sugar running through your blood flow. Over time, this can effectively lower your blood sugar levels, and your insulin will work better too. It is recommendable that you make exercise fun instead of exhausting and over the top.
